Opinions on Nick Land
Well, everyone knows about the particularly German inflection of the Palantir co-founders, and some former members of the CCRU are employed in tech these days.
I can't help but see his philosophy as, in one way or another, the groundwork of our contemporary political era, where there is (supposedly) no bottom of capitalist production.
It is, in the end, a very Kantian system, insofar as its only within secure borders that something Thing-like can come about. And the Thing, which comes from nowhere, which goes beyond mere understanding, violently pushes itself into the world, as the only aim of politics--via technology.
I don't expect many users here to be familiar with him, but I know there are some. I'm not on board with his politics, but I also have not yet read any substantial criticisms of his work, and would be happy to hear some from you all.
I'm working on Nick Land's core thesis that capitalism and AI are fundamentally identical. [0]
Land's provocations and politics often serve as an excuse to avoid confronting his ideas on the convergence of markets and minds - especially for those low on decoupling. My bold claim: without engaging with Land, it's nearly impossible to grasp the current moment or anticipate what's coming next (e.g., the autonomization of capital).
