Interesting read, ans kind of wild when I think in retrospect.

Back some 15-20 years ago, the thought of using a different search engine was ridiculous. In fact, every Google product seemed destined for success back in 2005-2010.

Fast forward to today, and I find their seach engine to be absolute crap and nearly useless. I view gmail with utter suspicion, and have been gradually moving over to Proton. Android is something I begrudgingly use, mostly because of a lack of alternatives (and no, iOS is not an alternative). And I actively avoid any new product they release, like the Google brand is synonymous of crap.

In fact, the only Google product I still think is fine is maps. I wonder how long until it also becomes crap. Seems more inevitable than anything else.

You probably don’t realize it because you’re not considering iOS, but Apple Maps is much, much better than Google maps, and has been for years.

I still use Google maps when I’m in smaller countries, but in the US, it’s not even close.

I am not in the US.

Where I live Waze and Google Maps are fine.

Proton is like my 'pure' email. I sign up for things that are likely to spam me using my gmail
